Second-guessing the musical output of Music is Love main man Oli Furness is turning into a rather enjoyable game. He’s never been one to settle on one particular groove, vibe or genre, so it’s little surprise to find him following July’s DJ Sneak-ish Middle Ground with the bumping, low-slung, swamp funk-goes-jack sleaziness of “Wanna Lie Down”. Created using a relatively small number of killer elements – bluesy, chant style vocal samples, mind-altering analogue bass, swinging machine percussion and a few choice noises – the track is undeniably one of his strongest to date. Parris Mitchell provides the obligatory remix, underpinning the vintage vocal samples with woozy chords and an even sweatier drum machine groove.
