New York City based DJ and producer, Nu Sky, has been doing big things in the scene for a few years now. With releases on Hot Creations, Avorte, Viva Music, to name just a few, he has been making his mark and pushing his sound. For his debut EP on Deeperfect he has teamed up with vocalist Yan Frenkel, who features on all three tracks, to bring us a heavy hitting and unique collection of dancefloor tracks. First up we have “Imagine The Future”, the EP’s name sake track. It opens up with a tough, but stripped back tech house beat and a deep subby bassline. Nu Sky weaves in a hypnotic analogue synth line that squelches and twists throughout the composition. Yan Frenkel’s spoken vocal comes in and elevates the energy of the tracks to the next level. Track two, titled “Aftopilot”, brings a more moody and melodic vibe to the release with a synth driven composition that really illustrates Nu Sky’s diversity as an artist. Underpinned again by a strong back beat and heavy bassline, “Aftopilot” is built on a strong foundation. The arrangement allows the various building synth stabs and arpeggio crescendos to shine and dominate the spotlight of the track. This time Yan Frenkel’s vocals are used sparingly to accentuate peaks and falls in the tension of this epic musical journey. Finally, we have “Think And Dance” to close things out on the EP. Starting out with a tough beat that slowly builds along with analogue synth stabs and a heavily effected vocal which slowly emerges from the track, and into the first break. This is where Yan Frenkel’s vocal comes in, dark and moody, and contemplating and reminiscing about the act of dancing to BASS! All in all, this is an energetic floor rocker which keeps just enough restraint to remain very timeless in the process!
