Japan’s DJ Shufflemaster joins Paco Osuna’s Mindshake imprint with a muscular techno single featuring remixes from the label founder and Gary Beck.
One of his country’s most prolific techno producers, Tatsuya Kanamori has been making music for over two decades. Having released on labels like Tresor, Ben Sims’ Theory Recordings and BPitch Control, 2014 saw Shufflemaster launch his Shiki Kyokai label, which plays host to his own material including his Housedust Sound System moniker.
Demonstrating a raw aesthetic from the off, ‘ReWeekender’ is a medley of organic drums, whirring effects and saxophone samples that generate a jazz inspired swing. BEK Audio boss Gary Beck’s remix is dance and ominous by comparison, with its catastrophic synths and rumbling low-end, making way for Paco Osuna’s low-slung reinterpretation that combines crunchy percussion with a thunderous energy.
