Next up on Chicago’s Nite Owl Diner is label boss Alex Burkat, following up some great releases recently on the likes of Mister Saturday Night, 100% Silk, Permanent Vacation and Third Ear. The title is quite possibly an ode to a Brooklyn neighbourhood’s increasing gentrification on The Last Days Of Flatbush EP. The dusty disco loops of “Spinning Plates” make for a rather energetic jam that’s hypnotic as hell and reaches near tribal moments with its funky polyrhythms. He then collaborates with fellow label alumnus Policy on the boompty and sun kissed groove of “Style Wars” that’s somewhat reminiscent of local legend DJ Sneak’s work. Elsewhere, the laidback acid house of “Moving Day” was possibly the EP’s highlight where emotive nu-disco aesthetics merge surprisingly well with the powerful glide of 303 sounds. Finally, Burkat serves up some rockin’ edit action on the cheeky balearic tinged DJ tool “Red Pineapple”.
